Paper darts are the most rudimentary form of paper plane and one of the simplest paper toys in general. Like with paper hats, so many children re-invent some form of paper dart by instinct, approximation, and the need to play, rather than through instructions. Paper planes and boats may be a refined version, but the simple dart — either of a clean design or just as a rough flattened spike of paper that rushes through the air — is the most primal of toys and inventions in paper.
What is a Paper Dart?
A Dart is a pointed missile. A paper dart is a similar pointed missile folded out of paper. While “paper dart” has become a colloquial simplification for any paper folded flying model, a dart has some unique features. A paper dart is:
- Pointed and long
- Designed for speed
- Meant to mostly travel in a fairly straight line
A paper dart is (normally) not:
- Only capable of slow gliding
- Acrobatic
- Overly complex in visual profile or shape
A paper dart is a lot of fun.
